Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed confidence in
security agencies in the country to handle the crisis in Agatu area of
the state which has claimed many lives.
Governor Ortom stated this today when the newly appointed Air
Officer Commanding,Tactical Air Command, Makurdi, Air Vice-Marshal
Emmanuel Eche Agwungwu visited him at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He called on all Nigerians to condemn the Agatu killings, urging
security agencies to step up surveillance in the affected areas to avoid
further bloodshed as the number of displaced people continues to rise.
Governor Ortom said his administration would sustain the support
given to security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives and property
in all parts of the state, disclosing that the expected visit of the
Inspector-General of Police to Benue tomorrow is part of the efforts to
ensure the return of peace to Agatu and other areas affected by the
crisis.
He commended the Nigerian Air force Base Authorities for relocating
the check point by the Filling Station near the base along Gboko road,
Makurdi.
Governor Ortom therefore directed his Special Adviser on Bureau of
Lands and Survey, Professor Jonathan Uever to liaise with authorities of
NAF Base for better collaboration.
Earlier, Air Vice-Marshal Agwungwu said he was at the Benue Peoples
House to inform the Governor of his posting to the State and what he
had done so far.
He commiserated with the Governor, Government and people of the
State over the recent Agatu massacre by herdsmen and promised to support
the administration in its determination to provide security of lives
and property.
